On July 25, 2019, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo signed the Stop Hacks and Improve Electronic Data Security, or SHIELD Act. It affects any business in or out of New York that stores or processes New York resident data. Compliance is mandatory by March 21, 2020. At this January 9 Rochester TRENDS Chamber Featured Speaker Series experience, John Roman, Jr., president and chief operating officer, The Bonadio Group’s information risk management division, FoxPointe Solutions, explores a deeper understanding of the SHIELD Act and other cybersecurity issues.

The SHIELD Act has a number of complex requirements businesses must adhere to within a short timeframe. Attendees will learn about key provisions and rules in the law—including new definitions about what qualifies a cybersecurity incident as a breach of data, obligations for businesses handling private computerized data, and reporting requirements—as well as what businesses must do to comply. In addition to the SHIELD Act, the session will provide an overview of key security issues to keep in mind at the start of the new year.
Time: 7:30-10:00 a.m.

Cost: $15 Chamber members, $25 non-members.  Proceeds will go to a charitable contribution
