Through the development and production of novel manufacturing scale-up for defense-related products, a new nationally distributed manufacturing innovation initiative, BIIOME, sponsored by the federal government, is designed to generate biomanufacturing solutions and economic opportunities at scale to ensure our communities, and industries are equipped with the end items they need to thrive too. This goal is being accomplished by utilizing existing manufacturing infrastructure, investing in new enhanced tools, establishing a countrywide knowledgebase, and supporting creation of local talent workforce pipelines to scale-up innovations in synthetic biology and bio-industrial manufacturing that create chemicals/materials with new functionalities, nutrition, etc. and thereby stabilize the US supply chain. 
•    There’s an emerging manufacturing landscape focused on biomanufacturing which will kick stat a US Bioeconomy
•    Lends itself to many different industries – infrastructure, electro-optics, protection/safety, transportation and upcycled high value products including those associated with nutrition
•    The Greater Rochester area has a significant role to play – utilizing existing infrastructure, accessible SME’s, supporting workforce development
•    Focus in on creating a BioNet across the states to extract value and demonstrate leadership for the nation
•    Aim is to onshore supply chains for critically important materials to address sufficiency at all times
