Rochester Regional Health Opens Wegman Center for Workforce Development
Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce Partner Member Rochester Regional Health held an opening ceremony for its Wegman Center for Workforce Development. The renaming of the former Health Learning Center is in recognition of a $5 million contribution from the Wegman Family Charitable Foundation to support patient care and capital improvements within Rochester Regional Health.
The gift is one of the largest made to Rochester Regional’s $300 million fundraising campaign, Because Care Matters. The Foundation joins the Sands Family Foundation, Constellation Brands, Inc. and the Riedman Foundation as a lead contributor to the campaign since its launch in November 2016.
“We need to ensure everyone in the community has access to high quality medical care,” said Danny Wegman, the foundation’s president and chairman of the board. “Any endeavor that seeks to improve the quality of the region’s healthcare demands our attention and support.”
The Wegman Family Charitable Foundation has a history of supporting community programs in the areas of education, health and wellness, and workforce development.
Eric Bieber, MD, president and CEO of Rochester Regional Health, said, “We are exceedingly grateful for the Wegman family’s support of our mission. Renaming the center in their name is an opportunity for us to recognize their commitment to our community, while reinforcing our shared belief in the importance of workforce training for a healthier, more sustainable economy.”
The learning center provides advanced training opportunities and space for clinical and non-clinical staff through the Isabella Graham Hart School of Practical Nursing and the simulation and training laboratory. It is also the base for Rochester Regional’s electronic medical record training.
