U.S. Chamber Awards Rochester Chamber with 5-Star Accreditation
The United States Chamber of Commerce awarded Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce with 5-Star Accreditation for its sound policies, effective organizational procedures, and positive impact on the community. Local chambers are rated Accredited, 3-Stars, 4-Stars, or 5-Stars. The final determination is made by the Accrediting Board, a committee of U.S. Chamber board members.
Of the more than 7,000 chambers of commerce in the United States, Rochester Chamber is one of only 205 to carry U.S. Chamber Accreditation, 112 with 5-Star Accreditation, and one of only four accredited chambers in New York State.
“Accreditation validates a chamber as having programs that benefit their local economy and for positively influencing action in their community,” said Raymond P. Towle, IOM, CAE, Vice President, Federation Relations and Institute for Organization Management. “We applaud these organizations for advancing the principles of free enterprise.”
Accreditation is the only national program that recognizes chambers for their effective organizational procedures and community involvement. In order to receive accreditation, a chamber must meet minimum standards in their operations and programs, including areas of governance, government affairs, and technology. This extensive self-review can take six to nine months to complete.
Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce Chairman and Constellation Brands CEO Rob Sands said, “This 5-Star Accreditation from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce speaks volumes about the important work done by the Rochester Chamber staff day in and day out. As Rochester Chamber chairman, I am very pleased to help lead this organization that truly makes a meaningful impact on our business community and our community at large.”
Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Bob Duffy said, “I could not be more thrilled that Rochester Chamber received the highest level of accreditation that the U.S. Chamber of Commerce offers. I’m especially pleased that we accomplished this achievement on our first time ever applying for accreditation. The accreditation process is similar to an audit of an entire organization and we passed with flying colors. The 5-Star designation reinforces the strength of Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce from its 130 year history to its talented staff and board of directors of today.”
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world’s largest business federation representing the interests of more than 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions, as well as state and local chambers and industry associations.
Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce passionately serves, promotes, and advocates for its members in order to secure economic prosperity for the Finger Lakes region.
