NYS Whistleblower Protection Posting Required as of January 26
In October 2021, Governor Hochul signed legislation that protects employees from retaliatory actions by their employers in the case of reporting illegal or dangerous business activities.
Part of this law requires employers to notify employees of their protections, rights and obligations under this section, by posting a notice conspicuously in easily accessible and well-lighted places customarily frequented by employees and applicants for employment.
While NYS has yet to provide a poster to help employers comply with this requirement, employers may want to consider posting a copy of the full text of the revised section 740 to help meet the posting requirement in the meantime. A copy of the full text of the regulations can be found here.
