IDEX Health & Science Donates $15,000 to the New York Special Olympics
IDEX Health & Science’s Life Science Optics Team—comprised of units in Rochester, NY; Lima, NY; and Carlsbad, CA—recently made a $15,000 Donation through the IDEX Foundation to the Special Olympics of New York. The IDEX Foundation is a charitable organization made up of customers, employees, and shareholders consistently striving to create value and improve the communities where their teams live and operate.
The Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and competition in 22 Olympic-style sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities at no cost. In New York State alone, there are 51,000 athletes, 4,800 which are served in the Rochester/Upstate Region. The IDEX Foundation Donation will go towards the purchase of Athletic Equipment, Coaches Education, and Athlete Uniforms.
“With our help and the support of IDEX Health & Science,” said Kelley Ligozio, Senior Director of Development at Special Olympics New York, “our athletes discover and unleash the champion within. In doing so over time, they have become the leaders of an Inclusion Revolution in New York’s schools, workplaces and communities.”
To date, over 90 participants from our Rochester IDEX Health & Science Life Science Optics team have volunteered at three in-office events to create motivational posters and three Special Olympic Events where IDEX employees cheered athletes on and helped distribute lunches.
“The Special Olympics event is a great way to help people with special needs,” said John Miclette, an IDEX Health & Science employee from our Bristol, CT location, has coached Track and Field with the Special Olympics for the last ten years. His son (John Jr.) participates in the standing long jump, 100 meter walk, soft ball throw, and bowling. “They are not judged by anyone,” John continued, “and can really enjoy themselves—all while getting much needed exercise and fresh air.” Our Bristol team raised over $1,300 with a t-shirt fundraiser and a $9,750 donation from the IDEX Foundation for the Connecticut Special Olympics.
