Geared for Growth: Inn on Broadway Restores Greater Rochester Institution with a Community Focus
Under new management, the Inn on Broadway and Tournedo’s Steakhouse is undergoing exciting restoration and renovation to revitalize the historical Rochester institution. Co-CEOs Miles and Amy Van Dusen were featured on Geared for Growth on May 8th as part of Greater Rochester Chamber’s ongoing partnership with FOX Rochester/13WHAM. Miles and Amy shared details about the venue and what renovations it’s undergoing right now, what their story has been like since taking over the establishment last year, and what their goals are for future community engagement.
The Inn on Broadway is a historic landmark situated in the heart of downtown Rochester, with an events
venue, hotel, and Tournedo’s Steakhouse located inside. Amy shared that inside they have a ballroom, four private dining rooms, Tournedo’s, and 25 boutique hotel rooms. “We’re a one stop shop for everything,” Miles shared. Amy shared some of the charm of the venue, including two floor-to-ceiling murals from the 1920s that are original to the structure. She also shared that for weddings, guests can usually rent out all 25 rooms and take over the venue for additional personalization and create a uniquely fun experience. Additionally, Tournedo’s, which is open to the public, is the only restaurant in upstate NY that dry ages their steaks on site to create their own proprietary flavor.
Over the past year since they took over, Amy and Miles have been working with the building owners on needed restorations, including an updated lobby, new roof, and updated amenities. “We’re really proud of the space,” Miles remarked, “It’s our job now to really bring it back to what it was and keep that going in Rochester.” Coming in, Miles and Amy didn’t have experience running a restaurant and hotel, and shared that it’s been a fun journey to overcome all the obstacles that come up. They are also proud to be fully operational throughout the ongoing renovations.
Moving forward, Miles and Amy shared that their main goal over the next five to ten years is to expand their presence in the community. Throughout the building’s history starting with the University Club in 1929, it has served as a social hub for a lot of different people and businesses. “We want to bring that back,” Miles explained, “We want to make it an open space for people to celebrate, and where they can go to be a part of the entire Greater Rochester community.” The Inn offers corporate partnerships for businesses looking to work with them.
