Breast Cancer Coalition to Host Webinar on Lymphedema: Reducing Risks & Managing Symptoms

date
July 16, 2024

Rochester, NY – Each month, the Breast Cancer Coalition hosts a webinar as part of the organization’s Evening Educational Webinar Series. Focusing on a variety of topics related to health and wellness, the webinars are free and open to the public. On Wednesday, July 24th at 7 pm, Melissa Clark, MS, OTR/L, CLT, will present on reducing risks and managing symptoms of lymphedema. Additionally, a survivor speaker will share her personal experience of living with lymphedema.

Lymphedema is a condition in which tissue swelling occurs due to the accumulation of fluid that is usually drained by the body’s lymphatic system. It is estimated that 5-25% of individuals who undergo surgery for breast or gynecologic cancer may develop some degree of lymphedema.

This webinar will focus on how lymphedema is diagnosed and whether it can be prevented, along with a discussion on non-surgical interventions that are available. Melissa Clark, owner of Clark Cancer & Lymphedema Therapy, is a Licensed Occupational Therapist and Certified Lymphedema Therapist with years of professional experience treating cancer patients and survivors during and beyond treatment who have developed lymphedema.

The Breast Cancer Coalition’s four pillars of service are Support, Advocacy, Research, and Education. The Coalition believes it is essential to offer digestible, relevant, and up-to-date information on topics that directly impact survivors of breast and gynecologic cancer. The Evening Educational Webinar Series is always free of charge – just like all of the Coalition’s programs and services – to ensure community members can access these valuable and important resources.
