Tuesday, September 17th is National Voter Registration Day – Here’s How to Help

In order for representative democracy to thrive, it’s critical that all eligible voters participate in elections to make their voices heard and have a say in the future of their communities. As of November 2022, just 65.8% of eligible individuals were registered to vote, meaning one out of every three people isn’t registered to vote. Further, just 49.1% of the voting population in New York State, made up of U.S. citizens who are 18 years of age or older, actually voted in 2022. (via KFF). This year, let’s work together do to better.

This Tuesday, September 17 is National Voter Registration Day. Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce is proud to support non-partisan efforts to increase voter registration and turnout. Today, take a few moments to make sure you’re ready for the November 5th general election:

 

Check your voter registration

Make sure you’re registered to vote and that your registration is up to date online with New York State’s Voter Lookup tool. Enter your information to confirm your registration, and learn more about where to vote and how early voting works this year.

Register to vote

If you’re not already registered, be sure to submit your application by Saturday, October 26, 2024. New York State allows voters to register online, by mail, or in person. If you need to update your voter registration, the same forms can be used to provide the most up-to-date information.

Encourage colleagues, friends, and family to register & vote

Once you’ve confirmed that you’re ready to vote this year, spread the word to make sure that others in your life are also registered to vote. Share this blog post on social media, or send a link to Vote.gov’s New York Voter Registration guide.
