Geared for Growth: UTC Retail Helps Connect Customers and Specialty Retailers with Point of Sale Systems Built in People-First Culture
UTC Retail provides point of sale systems to retailers around the country to help streamline user journeys and help them better connect with customers. President & CEO Sam Villanti was featured on Geared for Growth on Wednesday, November 27th as part of Greater Rochester Chamber’s ongoing partnership with 13WHAM/FOX Rochester. Villanti shared more about the businesses they work with in Greater Rochester, how they help their customers, and their goals for continued growth.
UTC Retails helps enterprise retailers facilitate transactions with customers through point of sale systems. “That is most easily referred to as the
systems that you use to check out and pay for your merchandise,” Villanti explained. They work with retail organizations who have between 50 and 2,000 store chains. Locally and around the country, examples of customers they work with include, Lowe’s, CVS, AMC Theaters, Pure Hockey, and more. “You’ll find our products in specialty retail stores,” Sam noted, “We’re doing apparel chains and hard good chains, not restaurants, convenience, or grocery.”
UTC Retail is focused on building true relationships with their customers in order to help them meet their objectives and improve their operations, which is what differentiates them from other point of sale systems. Their systems can help with far more than simply processing payment, including things like inventory management and cashier accountability. “It’s what we call an endless aisle, making it so you can start and complete the buying process anywhere,” Villanti explained. In addition to being able to find products in stock at other stores to turn the entire chain into a distribution hub, their products can also help track which employees are located where throughout the store to ensure that cash drawers and balanced and see sales numbers.
The organization was founded 36 years ago in Victor, NY and has changed and innovated to fuel its rapid growth. UTC Retail has additional locations in Ohio and Arizona, and it was recently ranked as the #1 fastest growing privately-owned company in the Greater Rochester region on the 2024 Greater Rochester Chamber Top 100 list. In order to continue to grow in the coming years, Villanti shared that their plans are to continue to focus on the specialty retail market and find unique ways to support that industry. He also shared that their people is the key area that they will be able to differentiate themselves and drive growth. “You can match our functionality, you can match our price, but you can’t match our people,” Sam noted, “We’re always looking for the right people to help advance our cause.”
