Rochester Salvation Army Announces “ROC the Kettle” Day to Help Fill Gap

date
December 11, 2024
Donation Match on Friday the 13th aimed at saving local Red Kettle Campaign

The Salvation Army of Greater Rochester is making an urgent appeal for donations and volunteer red kettle ringers, as it faces a significant shortfall in its annual Red Kettle Campaign. Currently, the campaign is running $26,000 behind, which threatens to impact The Salvation Army’s ability to provide the needed level of service in the Rochester area.

The organization, which has been serving the community for over 140 years, provides over 50,000 meals and 16,000 nights of emergency shelter to the homeless in Monroe County, along with providing over 8,000 unique individuals with food, clothing and social services. Funds raised through the kettle campaign between Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve are critical to the organization’s ability to continue providing support at this level.

To reach their Kettle Campaign goal of $250,000, The Salvation Army is encouraging supporters to help “ROC the Kettle” this Friday, December 13th, as donations on that day will be matched up to $15,000. Individuals can donate at one of over 30 kettle locations throughout Greater Rochester, or via a special online “virtual kettle” at rockettle.org.

Volunteers of all ages can also help by scheduling a 2-hour shift to ring the bell at RegisterToRing.com or by calling 585-754-9918.

“As the need for Salvation Army assistance continues to increase due to economic hardships, so has the need for donors and bell ringing volunteers.” said Major Rick Starkey, Director of Monroe County Operations. “Just one shift or one donation makes a significant difference. Right now, every dollar counts.”

All Red Kettle Campaign donations stay local to help provide food, shelter, support services and emergency items to Monroe County families and individuals throughout the upcoming year.
