New York COVID-19 Vaccination Leave Extended to 2023

date
August 9, 2022

In March 2021, former Governor Cuomo signed legislation providing up to four hours of paid leave for New York employees to receive a COVID-19 vaccine (under NY Labor Law Section 196-C). It was originally intended to be in effect until December 31, 2022.

On June 28, 2022, Governor Hochul signed NY AB 9513 extending paid leave for COVID-19 vaccinations through December 31, 2023.

As a result of this extension, NYS employers should review their COVID-19 vaccination leave policy to ensure it continues through the new expiration date.

Here is a link to the COVID-19 vaccination leave FAQs which should be updated in the near future to reflect this extension.  This leave does apply to any COVID-19 vaccination received by an employee, including booster shots.
