Rochester Women’s Bar Association Announces LSAT Scholarship for Aspiring Law Students from Historically Underrepresented Racial and Ethnic Backgrounds
The Greater Rochester Association for Women Attorneys (GRAWA) is pleased to announce the launch of its GRACE Scholarship Program for aspiring law students from racial and ethnic backgrounds historically underserved and unrepresented in the legal profession. The program is designed to support and empower women of color (WOC) who are committed to pursuing a legal career but face financial barriers to preparing for or taking the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT).
GRAWA recognizes the importance of diversity and inclusion in the legal profession. By offering this scholarship to rising college seniors or recent college graduates with ties to the Rochester area, the association aims to increase representation of individuals from underrepresented backgrounds in law schools and ultimately in Rochester’s legal field.
"We believe that diversity strengthens the legal profession and enhances our ability to serve our clients and community more effectively," said Josie Sheppard-Wilson, Immediate Past President of GRAWA. "Through the GRACE Scholarship program, we aim to empower talented WOC to pursue their dreams of becoming lawyers and, at the same time, demonstrate GRAWA’s commitment to make Rochester’s legal arena as diverse as the community we serve."
The scholarship will help defray the cost of LSAT preparation materials, courses, and/or exam fees for selected recipients. Applicants must identify as women and belong to a historically underrepresented racial or ethnic group. They must also demonstrate financial need and how they embody GRAWA’s mission.
Applications for the GRACE Scholarship Program are now available and will be accepted until May 29, 2024. Interested individuals can find more information and download the 2024 GRACE Scholarship Application at https://www.grawa.org/grace-scholarship.
