Geared for Growth: DSS, Inc. Powers Growth for Companies Globally with Customer-Centric Team

Chief Operating Officer Jason Grady was featured on “Geared for Growth” on Wednesday, August 7 as part of Greater Rochester Chamber’s ongoing partnership with 13WHAM/FOX Rochester. Grady discussed what the company does, some of the exciting teams in their portfolio, and shared more about one of their local companies, Premier Packaging.
DSS, Inc. is a public portfolio company that acquires businesses that have the potential for rapid growth, then nurtures and grows the companies before spinning them off through IPOs on the New York Stock
Exchange. “We find underperforming or undervalued businesses that we believe have potential, nurture them to the point of positive EBITDA, and eventually spin those off when we believe they’re ready and the market is ready,” Jason explained. Exciting news coming up, a biotech company under DSS will have it’s IPO on the NYSE next week on Monday. “DSS has evolved from what it was originally, which was based in the printing and packaging industry, to become the portfolio company,” Grady shared, “We went from four subsidiaries in 2019 to almost 38 subsidiaries today.” He also noted that they have rapidly grown from $17 million in assets to now having over $300 million.
DSS invests in companies across industries and business lines. Some examples that Jason shared include banking, commercial lending, consumer packaging, biohealth, nutraceuticals, renewable energy, and more. Something that unites all of their businesses is the great team of employees at DSS and each of their subsidiaries. “The team is what makes the company,” Grady remarked, “I couldn’t be more proud of the people we have.” DSS employs over 110 people within the Greater Rochester region.
One local customer facing subsidiary of DSS, Inc. is Premier Packaging, a consumer packaging company based out of Henrietta. Grady serves as President of Premier Packaging, which manufacturers paper board folding cartons for a variety of industries, including medical device, food and beverage, health and beauty, and OTC pharmaceuticals. Jason emphasized that their customer-centric orientation for this customer helps them to disrupt the industry.
