The Newsweek CCRC recognition results from survey answers focused on the quality of services and care, including housing accommodations, community services, food, overall care, safety measures, and staffing. Those surveyed included medical professionals, staff, and residents. Also considered was the Jewish Home’s reaccreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), financial standing, and continual expansion of offerings.
Jewish Home, located in Brighton, is the only CCRC in the Rochester region. A CCRC, also known as a life-plan community, is defined by AARP as “a long-term care option for older people who want to stay in the same place through different phases of the aging process — offering residents a sense of stability and familiarity as their abilities or health conditions change, with a wide range of care, services, and activities in one place.”
Jewish Home offers a full spectrum of programs and services to support older adults and their families, including independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, and memory care. There are about 2,000 CCRCs across the United States, according to Newsweek, which recognized 300 CCRCs nationwide on its 2025 list. In addition to being a leader in New York state, Jewish Home ranked in the top 20 percent nationally. This is the second year Newsweek recognized the country’s leading CCRCs, with Jewish Home ranking no. 5 in the state in 2024.
“With Monroe County having the state’s highest population of people over the age of 65, we are keenly focused on addressing the healthcare needs of our aging population, and at the Jewish Home that means access to all levels of care within one campus,” said Michael S. King, Jewish Home president and CEO, in reference to the latest Newsweekacknowledgment. “We are honored to be recognized for high-quality, innovative care and to welcome those who choose to join our vibrant community and call Jewish Home their home.”
Newsweek’s intent for creating the list of America’s Best Continuing Care Retirement Communities is to help older adults and their families “find the best place to enjoy retirement with exactly the right level of resources and care,” saidNewsweek global editor in chief Nancy Cooper.
